Biomechanical Analysis of Sagittal Plane Pin Placement Configurations for Pediatric Supracondylar Humerus Fractures

چکیده
Anterior to posterior (AP) pinning is the recommended sagittal pin configuration in divergent lateral entry coronal of pediatrics supracondylar fractures. However, there was still a lack evidence regarding alternative pins configurations. We aimed compare construct stiffness configurations by using synthetic bone models. Sixty pediatric humeri were osteotomized create fracture. After fracture reduction, all specimens fixed plane with four different patterns plane: AP, crossed, and parallel configuration. Each tested five loading patterns. The AP had significantly lower than (p = 0.003) 0.005) external rotation tests. highest extension, valgus, loads, but under extension load crossed provides greater other due maximal spreading distance at site angle lock mechanism.

Biomechanical analysis of pin placement for pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures: does starting point, pin size, and number matter?
BACKGROUND Several studies have examined the biomechanical stability of smooth wire fixation constructs used to stabilize pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures. An analysis of varying pin size, number, and lateral starting points has not been performed previously. METHODS Twenty synthetic humeri were sectioned in the midolecranon fossa to simulate a supracondylar humerus fracture. Specime...
متن کاملPediatric supracondylar fractures of the distal humerus
Supracondylar fractures of the humerus are a common pediatric elbow injury that are historically associated with morbidity due to malunion, neurovascular complications, and compartment syndrome. True anteroposterior and lateral radiographs are essential not only for an accurate diagnosis, but also for creating a treatment plan for these injuries. A staging system (based on the lateral radiograp...
متن کاملMulticenter Study of Pin Site Infections and Skin Complications Following Pinning of Pediatric Supracondylar Humerus Fractures
INTRODUCTION Pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures are the most common elbow fractures in pediatric patients. Surgical fixation using pins is the primary treatment for displaced fractures. Pin site infections may follow supracondylar humerus fracture fixation; the previously reported incidence rate in the literature is 2.34%, but there is significant variability in reported incidence rates ...
متن کاملTreatment of Pediatric Open Supracondylar Humerus Fractures: Case Report
BACKGROUND Open supracondylar fractures of the humerus are rare in children, and the treatment strategy for these fractures is yet to be standardised. AIM We present the case of a 7-year-old boy with open supracondylar humerus fracture that was managed with an external wrist fixator. CASE PRESENTATION A 7-year-boy was brought to our department with pain in the right arm after a fall from a ...
